Frequently Asked Questions

What to wear?

Choose fitted, comfortable clothes:

  • Option 1: Fitted top/t-shirt + yoga leggings, bike/sports shorts; optional long-sleeve top or ballet wrap skirt.

  • Option 2: Leotard + pink/black/skin-tone tights; add shorts or wrap skirt for coverage; optional long-sleeve top.

Hair: Secure away from your face – bun, ponytail, braid, headwrap, clips or headbands. Protective styles, headscarves and cultural coverings are welcome if secure and won’t block movement.

Do I need ballet shoes?

Not for your first class or taster – socks work fine. When ready, high-quality black/pink shoes are available to buy from Alex for £20 (cash or bank transfer).

Childcare Policy

Classes are adult-only – please do not bring children into the studio or waiting area. No on-site childcare is provided; arrange care in advance so you can relax and focus fully.

Am I too old?

Never. Adults of all ages are welcome. Age is no barrier to starting or enjoying ballet.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. Flexibility, strength and skill develop gradually with practice. We work at your pace and adapt every exercise to your current ability.

If I have a medical condition or injury?

You are still very welcome. Let us know in advance, and we will adjust movements to keep you safe and comfortable. Always follow your doctor’s advice.

Refunds

Bookings are non-refundable once reserved. If we cancel a session, we will offer an alternative date.

Etiquette

  • Be kind, supportive and positive – no comparisons or negative comments.

  • Phones on silent; photos/videos only if everyone agrees.

  • No talking while others dance.

  • Arrive on time, wear suitable clothes and secure hair.

  • Mirror-free studio – focus on how you feel and move, not how you look.

Will I get an award?

Yes. Each level has two 6-week courses. Attend at least 3 sessions to get a Certificate of Achievement at 6 weeks; complete both courses for a celebration and gift at 12 weeks. No exams or tests – recognition just for your progress.

Are there performances?

No public shows or stage pressure. We only hold small, private presentation evenings for our dancers to celebrate achievements.

We don’t tolerate bullying

Zero tolerance for bullying, rudeness or unkind behaviour. We keep the studio safe, inclusive and respectful for everyone. Anyone behaving badly will be asked to leave.

Do I need any prior experience?

None at all. Total beginners are very welcome – we start from the very basics.

Can I join a course part way through?

Generally no – we start new courses on set dates every 6 weeks to avoid disruption and ensure you never restart from scratch when someone new joins. Exception: if you have already paid for a course and kept up via livestream catch-ups, you may join part-way through.

What if I miss a class?

All sessions are privately livestreamed on YouTube. You will get a link to catch up so you don’t fall behind. If you know in advance you will miss 3 sessions, let Alex know – he may arrange a 1-1 catch-up.

Where do I put my bag?

Bags are brought into the studio and left in sight for safety.

Lost property?

Any items left behind are kept by Alex and returned to you at the next class.

Changing and toilets?

All venues have toilets available for changing.
